What we’ve experienced can shape how we feel about ourselves.  It influences how we relate to others, and how we deal with stressors. Many roots of current symptoms originate from our past and cause behavioural patterns that have outlived their usefulness and which block our potential. Psychotherapy can bring these patterns into awareness, so that change can occur. Effective therapy relies upon a good connection between therapist and client. I provide a comfortable and safe place to explore your concerns.

Our work will explore how the past contains keys to understanding issues and symptoms you (and your partner, if in couples therapy) might be dealing with. And then we will work together to unlock or dismantle them.

Therapy can also assist with present-day matters such as perfectionism and feeling stuck. It can offer ongoing support navigating your way through work, family, and other situations.

My psychotherapy approach has been refined and optimized over 25 years of practice. Therapy begins with a personal history, following which we focus on your therapy goals.

In the history phase, (for couples, the history of each partner), we will explore memories, experiences, and interactions that have informed who you are today. This process allows you to take stock of your life and get to know yourself more deeply in a safe, empathic and non-judgmental setting. It also provides vital information that will allow me to help you most effectively.

Once we have looked at the relevant aspects of your past, we will begin to work through whatever concerns you wish to address. For example, if you are experiencing symptoms such as depression or anxiety, or want to focus on an area of stress in your life, our work will aim to reduce symptoms and build strength and support you getting through the stressors.

Individual clients of psychotherapy have reported increased self-understanding, liberation from their symptoms, greater self-expression, and the ability to stand up for themselves. Others have described enriched relationships and feeling empowered in overcoming life stressors.

Couples have reported benefits from clearing away past resentments and dismantling family-of-origin issues that impacted their communication and intimacy. Partners have resolved misperceptions and misunderstandings, and learned to communicate better.

I have been in full-time private practice for over 25 years.

I have completed a Master’s in Adult Counselling, after which I pursued a Ph.D. in Child and Adolescent Psychology, which focused on treating children and adolescents. My Master’s thesis explored conflicting needs for intimacy vs. identity in couples. In my Doctoral dissertation, I examined the factors contributing to satisfaction and dissatisfaction in police couples

I have clinical experience as a play therapist. This work in particular made me keenly aware of how early experiences shape children’s development, the effects of which can continue well into adulthood. This has been demonstrated again and again in my work with adults.

It’s an honour and privilege to be a catalyst for my clients’ empowerment, healing and growth.

For those looking for in-person sessions, I am located on the Danforth in Toronto, with a second location in Richmond Hill (10211 Yonge St, Ste 206).
