Psychotherapy can help you come to understand the story of your life. Once you have understanding, you can be more compassionate toward yourself. You can discover new strategies that help you manage your life more effectively. This is your life. Psychodynamic psychotherapy will help you make the most of it.

Individual Therapy: When you come to therapy everything you say is confidential. You have the opportunity to be honest with yourself, to be reflective and examine, in an atmosphere free of judgement, what you consider to be the best and worst of you. Being deeply listened to by a trained professional can be a powerful experience.

Some people arrive to the first session with a great deal of anxiety and the first thing I do is try to deal with the immediate issue. My practice is trauma informed as I have completed Level 2 in Sensorimotor Training, a therapeutic modality specifically developed to assist people who have experienced trauma—either in the form of a concrete event, or as a consequence of an acutely distressing or depriving upbringing. The next step in the process is very relational. I work collaboratively to create trust and a sense of safety with my clients. After this we explore what the underlying cause of the issues distressing you might be.

My method of practicing psychotherapy is a combination of relational, psychoanalytical, and calming techniques. I am trained in the use of hypnosis as well. I use a holistic approach that is different with each client. Metaphors and humor often occur in my sessions.

Couples Therapy: I see couples as well. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy and try to help the individuals to understand how they affect one another. Once they understand their patterns, I try to help them see new ways of relating. Usually couples come for about 15 sessions.

I came to be a therapist during a period of my life when I was trying to help an important family member who was experiencing great difficulties. In order to deal with the issues of mental illness and the system, I had to learn what I was capable of doing and what was not mine to do. There were no answers, just more questions, and people who loved each other but were lost.

Although I knew nothing about therapy until this time, I found it helped me feel less alone at this very dark time in my life. It also helped clarify my thoughts and calm them down long enough to make decisions.

Therapy made such a difference to my life that I decided to go back to school in midlife and start a new career. I am glad I did.

I prefer to be contacted by email at sallycwright@rogers.com. I respond to professional inquires during the day, particularly during my lunch break. My usual pattern is to try to reach you by phone at that time to discuss what times you are available, your reason for calling, and details of payment.
I can do Skype or phone sessions if requested.

Note that I do not do free initial consultations. First sessions are exploratory, however, and it is entirely appropriate to determine during this time whether or not you feel there can be a proper fit. The need to feel you can relate to me is important.

I have limited evening appointments and do not work weekends.
