About
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a deep dive that help us shift troubling patterns, behaviours, and thoughts in a meaningful and lasting way. The point is not to be perfect but to be ourselves. When we feel comfortable in our own skin we are more open to possibility and vitality.
It can be difficult, but we do it together.
Sessions are one hour in length every week. I am a trauma-informed therapist who works intersubjectively, relationally, collaboratively, and creatively. But what does that mean?
It means we work together and explore all that you are willing to bring into session, both consciously and unconsciously.
It also means what happens between therapist and client can reflect other relationships in our lives, and it can be helpful to explore what is happening between us.
You are unique, therefore we work together creatively in a way that is specific to you and your needs.
I can’t seem to decide what has influenced me more, my fine arts background or many years of bartending. Perhaps it is that I come by this work honestly. I know what it is to sit opposite a therapist in an attempt to find meaning and relief.
I have taken on many projects in my life. Including years of study in the fine arts, I have owned my own business, I am a mother, an entrepreneur and a music fan. All of these experiences influence the way I work as a therapist. I believe therapy is a creative process, something we do together.
Leonard Cohen wrote “How can I begin anything new with all of yesterday in me?” And I believe it to be true. How can we move forward when we are haunted by the past?
I believe, in therapy we can learn to integrate all the parts of ourselves in search of the present. It is a human thing we try to do here. We show up and try to work things out.
