About
Human beings have an innate and remarkable capacity for healing and growth. However, when we are overwhelmed by our experiences and/or our feelings, or when access to our feelings is blocked, our ability to heal, grow, and change can be compromised.
How we struggle as a result will manifest differently in each of us. Some examples include experiencing anxiety and/or depression, difficult relationship patterns, unhappiness in our careers, feeling lonely, and developing unhealthy ways of coping.
You hold within yourself everything you need to make the changes you want. Our goal, together, is to help you access and grow your untapped resources, so that the healing and personal transformation you seek can become possible.
I often work with people who have hit the limits of more traditional therapy modalities. They may have found that ‘insight’ and understanding ‘why’ are helpful, but limited in what they can change. They may have found therapy ‘tools’ helpful but not impactful enough. They intuitively know that more can be achieved with therapy and are looking for something that will take them that missing step further.
They want a therapy that can change how they feel, how they experience themselves in the world and in relationships, and a therapy that gives them true self-agency and freedom to be their best selves.
In short, they are looking for a therapy that can transform them from the inside out.
I currently draw from six trauma-informed therapeutic modalities to achieve these goals. Primarily experiential and somatic in nature, they include EMDR, DBR (Deep Brain Reorienting), AEDP, and Sensorimotor, within a Psychodynamic framework. All of my work is deeply informed by ‘parts work’ (IFS – Internal Family Systems).
Why do experiential/somatic therapy? Most people find that they are experiential learners – they learn best by doing things. We don’t learn how to float in the water, for example, by learning the theory of floating – we need to experience it in the water to learn it.
Experiential and somatic therapies offer us a safe way to ‘get in the water’, so to speak, with our emotions and our trauma, big or small. This can transform us into someone who ‘learns how to float’, and then ‘learns how to swim’ – leading to a whole new experience of the ‘water’, i.e. life.
Whether you have years of therapy behind you, or are brand new to therapy, it would be my pleasure to work with you towards a deep personal transformation.
My first career was in the corporate world, working in clinical and pharmaceutical research. My own powerfully transformative experience as a client in therapy ignited my desire to help others transform their own lives. I went back to school to become a therapist, and it’s been my absolute pleasure to be working in this new capacity for the last 12+ years.
The main modalities I work with are psychodynamic (CTP graduate), experiential (AEDP Level 3 practitioner), somatic (Sensorimotor Level 1, Deep Brain Reorienting Level 2) and EMDR. My work is deeply informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS – ‘parts work’).
I’m engaged in ongoing training and education, and remain deeply excited about finding different ways to help my clients achieve their goals.
I offer a 30 minute no-charge consultation to see if we are the right fit for each other. We can explore what brings you to therapy, and I can answer any questions you may have about therapy and what our work together would look like.
My rate is $200 per 50-minute session. I offer in-person, video (secure online format) or phone sessions.
Please contact me at 647-285-8080 or mafalda.urbanyi@gmail.com to book a consultation or if you have any questions.
