My approach is tailored to your needs. Couple sessions can help you understand and reframe what troubles you. My education and training in various approaches allows me to put your specific needs first, and show you how to dramatically alter how you interact with each other. Humour has helped me in my life and it can make this difficult work a little easier.

Couples Therapy
My intention is to “mend, not end” the relationship, if at all possible. Hwever if ‘end’ is what you wish to dod, I can try to help you make it as amicable as possible.

I work with couples who want to enrich their relationship, as well as those hoping to preserve a relationship that is being threatened. A few sessions usually helps identify and change behaviour patterns that prevent you from flourishing. In sessions I can guide you to feel better, safer, and closer. This can serve to remind you why you chose each other in the first place!  It is  a skills based therapy. I am certified in the Psychobiological approach to Couples Therapy. (PACT) This relationship structure was developed  by Stan Tatkin, Author of Wired for Love, In Each Others Care, and several other books.  It is a good idea to have a look at one of his books to see if the relationship ideas appeal to you.  This kind of therapy is skills based and can offer you some tools to help you create a safe, secure relationship, in which you treat each other with fairness and sensitivity. A secure functioning relationship benefits everyone in your family.

***I am currently accepting couples only***

In both couples and individual therapy, I try to be compassionate, kind, gentle, and collaborative. I will be honest and open with you if I think you are missing something important. I will not suggest what you should or should not do, but will be there to guide you through possible ways to deal with the difficulties you present. Together we will wonder why and how you came to feel the way you do.

Whether you are seeing me as an individual or as  a couple, my job is to help you gain a deeper understanding of your stresses, and come up with strategies that (when implemented)  can help you take charge of your life, feel less alone, less victimized, and more able to cope with life.

I began to study psychotherapy shortly after settling in Canada and have been in private practice in Toronto since 1993.

Many years of involvement in the study of psychotherapy, together with a marriage of nearly 50  years has been my foundation for learning about the complexity of self, family, and relationships.

At first I worked primarily with individuals. Fascination and further study led me to work with mother and infant/child-parent attachment. This led me directly to relationship and couples therapy.

For a number of years I studied different types of couples therapy.  In 2011, I began to study the “Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy” (PACT) with Stan Tatkin, and I am now a Certified PACT Therapist. This relationship ideal has become my primary approach to working with relationships and influences all my work.

I’m a registered psychotherapist with the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and am a member of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy.

If you would like to have an introductory zoom meeting with me, please email my assistant at  leekraemer@gmail.com.  Please have a look at my personal website   https://leekraemerpsychotherapy.ca/ to find out more about how I work.  Through the website we can arrange to meet on zoom for a 20 minute  introductory conversation.
