“People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself. But the self is not something one finds, it is something one creates.”
-Thomas Szasz
Many of us turn to therapy when we have reached a point in our life where things no longer seem right for us. We feel confused, overwhelmed and disconnected from ourselves and others. This experience can feel like voicelessness, like being a sleepwalker moving through life without a sense of feeling real or alive. We may become strangers to ourselves and react to life rather than live it.
As human beings we long to be heard and understood as we are or imagine ourselves to be. We require spaces to explore our unique narratives and stories that help foster our sense of self to develop. A therapeutic relationship provides us a safe space to be able to speak without judgement and connect with a therapist whom we trust, and who can assist us in our self-exploration and our root struggles. By exploring our life experiences and how we think and feel leads to a greater sense of awareness and integration of self. As well as help us to become curious about our lives, relationships and the world around us. Psychodynamic therapy is not a quick fix solution but rather can be a meaningful experience for those who are in search of living a better, creative, and meaningful life.

I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy, a therapy that helps integrate self-awareness through talking about your life experiences and how you move through the world. This experience allows you to come as you are without the pressure of feeling like you have to perform to be something you’re not. This is a space for you to begin speak freely as you begin to explore your emotional and thinking life. This is a process that is unique to you and requires commitment and time to develop.
My own adverse life experiences as a young refugee navigating my way in a new country eventually led me to seek psychotherapy as an adult. The experience helped me to explore and learn about myself by finding my voice and my curiosity. Eventually I made the decision for a change in career path to become a therapist. I studied in a graduate-level program in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy for 9 years and graduated in 2022. I have been working as a therapist since 2019.
I offer therapy in English and Persian. I typically see clients on a weekly basis for 60 minutes per session. If you would like more information or to schedule an initial consultation, please contact me at 416-505-0081 or email me at arzumoradian@gmail.com. I look forward to speaking with you.
