Many years ago I needed help but had no idea where to start or how to choose. The list of names in the yellow pages left me with an overwhelming sense of anonymity. How could I make such an important choice in such an arbitrary manner? The truth is you cannot! Finding the right person is a matter of fit. If the fit is right, you feel heard and a sense of ease. Select someone you are drawn to, meet them, and choose the one you feel is the best fit. Trust your instincts.

Together we will create a safe, non-judgmental environment for you to speak freely about anything on your mind. If we can allow ourselves to speak freely in our own unique manner, we begin to feel heard. When we feel heard we begin to feel that our experience matters, that we matter.
Psychotherapy is in part a process of creating such an environment and if we succeed we may begin to feel safe enough to let ourselves speak in this way, and we may begin to feel that it is possible to be ourselves in the world, with others, and within ourselves.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist, a member of the Canadian Association of Psychodynamic Therapists, and a lifetime member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). I graduated from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in 2002, in Toronto. My work with individuals and couples is informed by the many years of group, individual, and couples therapy that I have participated in since 1984.
I have a passionate interest in freedom of expression. I have found that the psychotherapeutic process, rooted in the mind-body connection has been an essential part of finding this freedom. I continue to explore and develop this freedom through mindful meditation, pilates, the Feldenkrais Method, and vocal training.
My office is located at 366 Dupont St., about a two-minute walk west of the Dupont subway station. There is meter parking on Dupont from 9am to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm, side street parking as well as several paid parking lots.
I invite you to contact me by telephone at 416-200-5790 or by email at larry.g.smith@bell.net to set up an initial consultation. The first consultation is free and is intended to give you a chance to meet with me, discuss what you’re looking for in psychotherapy, and ask any questions you may have.
