Psychotherapy is an ongoing conversation that focuses on you—your moods, thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It’s a chance to speak openly and look at things from your past and present that might be affecting your daily life, social interactions, or ability to enjoy life. It is an opportunity to be fully seen and understood.

Therapy can help you understand yourself better, improve your relationships, and develop better skills to handle life’s challenges.

In our sessions, we will explore your past experiences. We will reflect on your emotions and behaviors such as self-criticism, anger, substance use, perfectionism, overworking, and self-isolation, without judgment or blame.

I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy. This type of psychotherapy focuses on how early relationships shape the adult self. It can help you identify and express difficult feelings and understand experiences you may be avoiding. These insights can help you make better choices and live more authentically.

My approach to psychotherapy is influenced by many theorists and colleagues who shape the direction of my work. The therapy is conducted with your consent, based on your goals, and designed to help you live the life you want.

I began studying psychotherapy after nearly twenty-five years in branding and advertising. My experience in communications taught me to listen, translate, and interpret people’s words, actions and intentions. I realized my keen interest in people, their motivations, behaviours, and relationships. This led me to study at Toronto’s Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CTP) and become a psychotherapist.

My background in the agency world, along with my training at CTP, has deepened my understanding of the complexity of relationships, stress, and how our past can hold us back from reaching our potential.

If you are struggling, I welcome your inquiry.

I have a hybrid practice and offer both virtual/phone sessions as well as in-person sessions. Currently I am seeing clients from Monday-Friday, daytime and evenings.

A good starting point is to arrange a consultation so you can ask any questions you may have, and determine if my approach is what you are looking for. Consultations are free of charge, virtual, and approximately 20-30 minutes in length.

You can reach me at karen.wreford@gmail.com. I respond to emails within 24 hours.
