Some issues are hard to discuss with the people in our lives. Staying silent in these struggles can be painful. Therapy is an opportunity to explore you; your experiences, patterns, thoughts, feelings, orientations, pains, and impulses so that, to begin with, you are no longer handling them alone.

The work of therapy is determined over time by combining my training and skills with your knowledge of yourself and your needs. We create the space for you. We build trust together. We work to develop an empowered place for your therapeutic goals to take shape.

You are centred in our time together. We go at your pace and focus on your needs. A good therapeutic relationship is one where safety, trust, and open communication are established. I am here to facilitate this kind of relationship and to support you in your goals.

The kind of work I do acknowledges that there are many systems—conscious, unconscious, and social—that affect our quality of life. We will endeavour together to shed light on how these systems relate to one another within you, what they feel like for you, and how they show up in your relationship with yourself and other people.

In this process we begin to identify patterns you may want to step out of, skills you might need to develop, and perceptions that together we can challenge to make joy more accessible in your life.

I provide long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy. This means that, when coming into therapy with me, you can expect the work to last one year or more. Our issues take us a lifetime to develop and patience to dismantle. I offer 60-minute sessions, usually at least once per week, online or by phone at a rate of $140.00 per hour.

I come to the work of psychotherapy through my own mental health issues and challenges in life. I do not believe that what worked for me will work for you. Rather, I use the lenses I have gained in experience to offer you an anchor in your own times of turmoil.

I grew up in a working class, multicultural, blended family; therefore, I have been

thinking about and trying to grapple with frameworks of anti-oppression, feminism, and classism for a long time. The intersection of privilege and oppression in my own life has been and continues to be an important part of how I empower myself. I am curious to learn about how you internalize or benefit from these systems.

I took my training at The Centre For Training in Psychotherapy. This is a rigorous program that provides both academic learning and clinical experience. In my studies I engaged with trauma, attachment, intersubjectivity, classical psychoanalysis, and relational theories that provide me with the basis necessary to be a reliable source for you in your work.

Prior to my training as a psychotherapist, my background was in supportive work in the arts, community building initiatives, literature, and music. I continue to conduct myself with mutual aid, access, and compassion at the heart of my goals.

It is of utmost importance that you have confidence in your therapist to hear you and to respect your needs. Our first step together is to assess whether or not you and I can begin addressing the issues that make you feel the most vulnerable. For this reason, I offer a free 30-minute online or phone consultation.

Consultation is an opportunity for you to begin to ask the questions and express the issues that mean the most to you and determine if I am the right fit for work with you.

If you are interested in consulting with me, or if you have any further questions about the process, please contact me at deirdrejeosullivan@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
