We all develop our own way of being in the world and therapy offers a unique opportunity to examine that alongside someone. I consider part of my role to be a witness to your experience, listening and observing as your narrative unfolds while applying my skills to support you along your path. This may include highlighting aspects that would otherwise be difficult to see on your own or linking events to provide context. Together, we’ll work to understand your past and present in a way that can offer more awareness and agency in your future.

My training is based on psychodynamic theories and practice ranging from traditional analysis to contemporary models. I work with adult individuals, meeting once weekly for 50-minutes.

Our timeline is agreed in the initial consultation, either for ongoing work without a specified end date or a short course of therapy lasting 8-12 sessions to focus on a specific area.

We might think of our sessions as a picture frame with its image created each week from your thoughts, feelings and experience. As we view this together, and repeat the process weekly, links between these snapshots can be identified and then patterns recognized. In this way, another overall picture becomes visible which can provide additional perspective in the work.

I worked as a journalist for more than two decades before my clinical training. In that role, I listened to people from all walks of life under different circumstances around the world and always with a belief that every voice deserves to be heard. This is also true in therapy.

In Canada, I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I am also a member of British professional standards associations including the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As a member of these organizations, I abide by their Codes of Ethics and Practice and commit to ongoing professional development.

You can contact me to schedule an appointment or simply ask a question, writing as much or as little as you want.
Initial consultations last longer than a usual appointment to allow time for us to consider what brings you to therapy now, your history and treatment options. There’s no commitment required and if you’d prefer to start with an introduction telephone call at no charge, we can arrange that to consider the best approach for your next steps.

If you’d like to know more, please email me at jglovertherapy@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you.
