The human mind is formed by past experiences and trauma in life, especially those that occurred during significant developmental stages. As a result, you may find yourself struggling with low self-esteem, feelings of sadness, anxiety, or depression; you may feel stuck in your life and despite your best efforts, it may seem that you keep falling back into the same patterns over and over again.

In the process of psychotherapy, we try to understand the functioning of the mind and then use this understanding to explore the complexity of emotions that are responsible for the way it functions. This exploration can simplify these complexities and ease our difficulties by helping to illuminate alternatives to low feelings and repetitive patterns.

By shedding light onto the past and giving insight to the present, psychotherapy facilitates change, contributes to our well-being, and enables us to live a fuller life. Psychotherapy helps us to develop knowledge of ourselves and others, enabling us to seek and establish fulfilling relationships. Inner peace and tranquility follow from our capacity to understand our emotions.

I offer mid- to long-term psychotherapy.

I invite you to a safe space where you can freely express yourself and engage in a creative process as we work together.

We will discuss what you are bringing to the session, and the sessions will follow and respect your pace. I will come up with reflective comments and questions that help both of us to gain insight into the problem and have a better understanding of it. The therapy process can bring forward difficult feelings, but in working them through, gains in growth and insight frequently follow.

The frequency of sessions is at least once a week, and each session is 50 minutes in length. Given the current pandemic, sessions take place virtually or by phone until we are allowed to resume our regular office sessions.

I am able to provide psychotherapy in two languages, English and Persian (Farsi).

I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management, and graduated from the Center for Training in Psychotherapy, where I completed six years of comprehensive study and training in psychotherapy. I am a member of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT).

For years, I strived to create change outside of myself, but altering my surroundings did not result in any substantial change. Eventually, my interest in understanding myself and searching for the truth led me to participate in psychoanalysis, which brought a real change to my life and opened up a world of potential. I believe that actual change starts internally and not from a focus on the outside.

Since adolescence, I have found myself interested in psychology and understanding the human mind; however, an unconscious striving to manage my life directed me to another academic field. My intellectual interest in psychology continued in the form of self-study, personal therapy, and readings until I pursued formal education in psychotherapy.

The unique experience of my own personal therapy, along with my academic knowledge and training in psychotherapy, have developed my capacity for being a good listener, to engage attentively to my clients, and to understand and help them through reflective conversation.

The initial session is an assessment session that enables us to catch a glimpse of our working relationship and the possibility of continuing together. The length of the initial session is 30 minutes with an applicable fee of $30, if we decide to continue; otherwise, the initial session will be free of charge.

The fee for a regular session is $120.
