Looking for a therapist likely means you want to see some sort of change in your life, but how does this change happen? By coming to a quiet space and taking the time to talk and listen…really talk and listen…a greater understanding can be found within ourselves.

Psychotherapy happens through confidential, open, and honest conversation where you will have the opportunity to talk to me about what is happening in your life right now. We may also explore how your early life experiences contribute to what you are bringing to sessions. This can include talking about feelings, hopes, dreams, fantasies, thoughts, sexual experiences, bodily sensations – any experiences you want to bring into the room. My job in these sessions is to conduct in-depth listening in a compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental way. We will work together to find patterns in your experience and work to understand how these patterns have influenced your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy, which works with the unconscious, looking at things such as dreams, wishes, desires, and fears. I encourage you to come to sessions prepared to talk about what is happening to you in the present, and we will likely also end up discussing past experiences.

I work with clients for medium-to-long-term therapy, meeting at least weekly for 50-minute sessions (extended sessions are an option). Meeting weekly allows us to create a cohesive conversation where we can explore your experiences in-depth. My office is a safe space where you will be able to move at your own pace.

My personal background is quite varied and includes work in libraries, publishing, and not-for-profit organizations. My formal education includes a Master of Information Studies, later followed by training at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CTP).

I believe it is my personal experience with psychotherapy that ultimately brought me towards being a psychotherapist. It has allowed me to come to this work with greater empathy, as well as an understanding of the benefits and challenges of both living with issues and working through those issues.

Finding the right fit with a therapist is very important, so I offer an initial 30-minute no-fee consultation, which gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about therapy and to get an initial sense as to what it will be like for us to work together.

I offer 50-minute sessions in a fully-accessible office at 344 Bloor Street West (Bloor and Spadina) in Toronto, and I meet with clients at least once a week. The opportunity for extended sessions is also available. In order to accommodate location, accessibility, childcare, and other such matters, Skype and phone sessions can be arranged once therapy is underway.

Please contact me at pamelamillar@protonmail.com to book an initial no-fee consultation or to ask questions. I am usually able to respond within 24 hours.
