A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind.
    -Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

From my experience of therapy, discovery for my clients comes from listening to their own ideas, their own thoughts, their own intuitions about their life stories, in conversation with another whose curiosity helps unfold what is within that story. My experience has been that the examined life can lead to discovery that is surprising and unknown.

Psychotherapy sessions are private, collaborative and improvisational, unique to every client and therapist; they provide a supportive, confidential setting where you can take the time you need to consider your life deeply. I hope to provide you with a flexible, empathetic space where you feel comfortable to explore your past, present, and future in a manner that is individual and meaningful to you, in a manner that prepares a path to discovery.

As I said in my short introduction: You know what keeps calling for your attention, you know what is on your mind. This is where a therapeutic conversation can begin.

I believe in the value of listening closely to the particular story of the individual. Old wounds and early life experiences often influence how we see ourselves and how we feel in our present relationships. Slowing things down and taking the time to attentively listen, further develops our capacity to understand, to recognize, and to make sense of our experience. Therapy offers an opportunity to feel what we previously could not bear, to find our own words, and to reach beyond outgrown patterns of behavior. Thoughtful conversation and supportive feedback can help you find the confidence to make changes that are right for you.

I like to work collaboratively, respecting your perspective. The rapport and unique relationship developed between client and therapist can offer a foundation for growth and transformation, uncovering unknown strengths and abilities.

I enjoy the work of being a therapist on a deep level. It involves privileged, meaningful conversations about fundamental issues we all face. Being a client means making yourself unsettlingly vulnerable. The Centre for Training in Psychotherapy requires its training therapists to have extensive experiential as well as extensive academic training. I have spent time in the client’s chair and I try to keep this sense of vulnerability in mind in order to make sessions a safe and helpful space.

My own life experience has been in the fields of business, education, and the creative arts; each have had an impact on me and remain significant to this day. This varied experience has brought me into contact with people of diverse social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, and my current practice parallels this diversity.

As well, I am a mother, and words alone cannot express enough what this experience has taught me.

The first meeting is a consultation lasting approximately thirty to
forty minutes. The fee for consultation is $50.00. In this first meeting, you will have an opportunity to meet me and to see whether you think we are a fit. We can discuss what brings you to therapy and you can ask any questions you may have.

My office is conveniently located just a minute away from the Spadina subway stop in Toronto. If you would like to set up an appointment, leave a voicemail at 416-318-1560 or you can also reach me at lainewilliams.therapy@gmail.com. I will get back to you as soon as I can (usually within twenty-four hours). My preference is for in-person sessions but when the circumstances call for it, I offer phone and Skype sessions too.

If you would like to meet or would like further information, please contact me at 416-318-1560 or you can also reach me at lainewilliams.therapy@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
