How Can Psychotherapy and Mindfulness Help?

At a very early age we develop false, misleading beliefs about ourselves that are powerfully believed to be true. Our sense of self-worth becomes distorted and deeply affects the way we live our life.

Psychotherapy will help you to establish new beliefs about yourself.

This work is a journey taken by you and a therapist working closely together on everything that is important to you. This journey aims at new possibilities, explored in a safe environment with trust, respect, openness, and strict confidentiality.

The use of mindfulness is essential in the psychotherapy that I practice. Mindfulness is a scientifically proven way of seeing things more clearly in the moment. We mindfully explore how so much of the past actually influences your present experience.

    Healing and Change

I believe healing and change take place through feeling and experiencing, not just thinking and talking. In other words: “Talk doesn’t cook the rice”.

Healing and change take place when you are able to connect to and experience emotion in the present moment within the therapeutic relationship. Good psychotherapy facilitates transformative experience.

You may be experiencing stress, anxiety, overwhelming emotions, depression, or mood disorders. Come into the session and bring in all relevant issues, and all that is important and meaningful to you.

As a therapist I will help you to work through vulnerable feelings or memories in a safe and therapeutic way. Together, we will decide when it feels safe enough to work with painful emotions or memories that surface.

The way that I practice psychotherapy is intentionally being open, emotionally engaged, compassionate, and non-judgmental.
I am empathic, compassionate, and have a capacity for deep listening.

I like the metaphor of learning to dance together. I see the therapeutic relationship as a dance—following your lead and maybe at times, if you choose, I will be comfortable leading.

I believe the most valuable contribution is having been involved for many years in my own therapy process. I have developed a great capacity to open and attune myself with my clients. Additionally, I have extensive psychotherapy training in different modalities, including a lifetime of practicing and teaching mindfulness practice.

Prior to psychotherapy I was in business, owning and running salon spas in the UK and Canada. I developed a great interest in listening and speaking to people, which has helped me enormously as a practicing psychotherapist.

My education includes studies at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), extensive trainings and workshops, and meditation retreats in India, Costa Rica, the UK, the US, and Canada.

I lead mindfulness groups on a regular basis in Toronto, Mexico, and online.

As a therapist I am involved and active in the therapy community and regularly interact with other psychotherapists. In addition I keep current by continuing to attend trainings, workshops, and supervision; this enables me to provide the best therapy for you.

I work extensively with individuals and couples.
